The agreement keeping God

I have been writting about the character of God, i.e, YHWH, in my recent posts. The last one was about the fact that he loves to make covenants. But an agreement (covenant) means nothing if the integrity of the covenanters is questionable. That is why one of the most imortant things we must know about YHWH is that he is not a man, he can be trusted.

''Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.'' Deuteronomy 7:9

The Lord your God is the faithful God, that is his nature. That is the type of being he is : He is a trustworthy being.

On this character of his hinges our ability to trust the covenant we have with him for all eternity. On the Bible Gateway website, today's verse of the day was Jesus' words in John 10:28-30 :

''I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”

That is his promise to those he has covenanted himself to: those who have partaken of his blood and flesh (accepted his sacriifice on their behalf- John 6:54). The very character of integrity YHWH has, is what Jesus has. He can be trusted to do his part.

Jesus staked his life on YHWH's promise to Abraham and for all of eternity, he is dedicated to it.

''Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.''Hebrews 7:25

YHWH will go to every length to keep his word even beyond the realm of time i.e eternity. Why? He honours his own word.

In essence what I am getting at is this, you can stake your life on him. For this present world and in the world to come, if you are his, he’s got your back.

The problem we have is that we see time as mortals and think in only in those terms. YHWH, however, not only sees the realm of time we presently live in, i.e. this short run, but he also sees and thinks in terms of his ageless realm: eternity. That is why his wisdom and love need to be trusted. Like a good Dad, anything he tells us is for our own good, because he sees the bigger picture.

Today, you can also stake your life here and for eternity on the Covenant keeper.
