"Yet God has been my king from ancient days—
God, who makes salvation happen in the heart of the earth!
You split the sea with your power.
You shattered the heads of the sea monsters on the water.
You crushed Leviathan’s heads.
You gave it to the desert dwellers for food!
You split open springs and streams;
you made strong-flowing rivers dry right up.
The day belongs to you! The night too!
You established both the moon and the sun.
You set all the boundaries of the earth in place.
Summer and winter? You made them!"
Psalm 74:17 CEB
Jesus came to make the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob known to us as 'Father'. The majority of the (well over 300) times the word translated 'Father' appears in the New Testament section of the Christian Bible, it was uttered by Jesus in relation to YHWH the God of gods. Jesus came to give us an understanding of God as Father and of ourselves in him as sons and daughters. So it is right we develop this precious relationship. It is right we "draw near to the Throne of favor with confidence so that we can receive mercy and find grace when we need help." Hebrews 4:16 CEB. It is right we are close and loving with our Daddy
However, remembering the majesty and power of our God is what allows us to live in reverence (deep respect) of him. This protects and emboldens our holy walk in this world. Our Father God is Love but also the All-powerful God! His power is not restricted to cosmic realms, He IS the creator of all the earth, the heavens and He keeps his sovereignty over it all.
Please remember the LORD.
Remember His tender divine Love but remember also His power and rule. Worship him with reverence.
Find out who he truly is and Celebrate His Majesty.
The reverence of YHWH is where insight starts. To acknowledge the Holy (diety) is where understanding begins.
If we read Proverbs 9:10 casually, we will not realise that it is a revelation:
- to know God, you have to first acknowledge him as LORD:
“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” Acts 2:36
"If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9
- And to truly understand his power (Lordship, sovereignty, majesty) you have to be able to see and acknowledge him as GOD - diety.
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven."Matthew 16:15-17(NIV)
"For this reason, they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God." John 5:18 (NIV)
Jesus is God.
God came in human flesh to reveal himself to humans through the person of Jesus the Messiah, nevertheless, that process was in no way a reduction of his authority, Diety, power, or right over ALL things in heaven on earth or under the earth. Right now he is back in all His full glory in Heaven. The knowledge and acknowledgement of the divinity of God in Christ Jesus is understanding.
YHWH is the origin and definition of Holiness. He is origin and definition of divinity. He is the source of every life, the Beginning and Origin of God’s creation.(Revelation 3:14).
Worship is an acknowledgement of the Sovereignty of a Deity. A heart with no reverence or holy fear (deep respect) cannot worship God. It can sing, dance, or even be moved emotionally, but not necessarily worship.
Worship is a heart thing. "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”(John 4:24) It is falling down on your face inwardly and truly in recognition of the superiority of a being over yourself and all things. A heart that is too familiar cannot worship. A heart that esteems itself, its views or any other thing or knowledge above YHWH and his Son Jesus, cannot worship.
May we always remember that we serve a God that is beyond time.
He pre-existed Time and therefore time is subject to him - not the other way around. YHWH is not adapting to us in every generation, instead, he helps every generation understand and adjust to Him. If he was as fickle as humans, the world would have been destroyed from the first sin of man (Adam).
“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed." (Malachi 3:6)
In the time of the end, there is a charming personality coming and now is. He ...“ will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place. He will show no regard for the gods of his ancestors or for the one desired by women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all."
Despite his successful charm, those who reverence their God will see through deceptions and lies. How? Because a heart that esteems the majesty of Jesus and YHWH above all things can discern an irreverent (unholy) spirit from miles away! But those who are not trained in reverence and do not acknowledge the Rule, Majesty and Sovereignty of the YHWH (and Jesus) over ALL, will be fooled. They foolishly equate gain with godliness because they do not know true worship of the Lord God.
"With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him." Daniel 11:32
Reverence is not stuffy, or lacking in intimacy or expression of love. The relationship between Jesus and his Father was full of love and oneness :
"No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”(John 1:18)
but likewise deep respect and submission:
“... for the Father is greater than I." - Jesus (John 14:28b)
Christ is our example and worship is both our privilege and protection.
"Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;" Psalm 95:6
And he said, “Lord, I believe [in You and Your word]!” And he worshiped Him (Jesus)[with reverence and awe]." John 9:38 AMP
"Although a wicked person who commits a hundred crimes may live a long time, I know that it will go better with those who fear God, who are reverent before him." Ecclesiastes 8:12
