... The great thing about writing, music and other forms of creative expression is that they allow you interaction with their authors on a deeper level. Some might try to engage only on the intellectual level, but as you read the same author often, you start to notice trends. You actually begin to gain insight into the author's personality and mind (reasoning). In fact, engaging with any form of expression is keeping company with the author or artist. Proverbs 13:20 says He who walks [as a companion] with wise men will be wise, But the companions of [conceited, dull-witted] fools [are fools themselves and] will experience harm. AMP The company we keep influences and shapes our character and ultimately the direction of our lives. David the greatest king of Israel and, (according to God) a man after God's heart, said of himself - "I choose as my friends (companion) everyone who worships you and follows your teachings".Psalm 119:63 Now all scripture is God breathed, I.e God inspired (2 Timothy 3:16), reading and studying the bible therefore, is keeping company with the God of god's - The Lord Yahweh himself. Now imagine the depth of wisdom and character that will be developed if we seek to know and love God through his inspired words! The most beautiful part of reading the bible, however, is not mainly the intellectual knowledge or wisdom acquired, it is discovering the heart of God. With the book where he unveils himself, a relationship through understanding can be forged. A relationship with God as an intimate friend and father. This is the Lord's ultimate purpose for inspiring the books of the bible- he wants you be his friend, he wants understanding, he wants love.
Will you read the bible? Will you company with God?
