Personal identity is simply put, who you think you are i.e how you see yourself. It is the set of beliefs on which an our idea of self are anchored. Our view of our abilities, limitations, status, presentation and worth stem from it. Though it can evolve, whatever it is at any point in time, forms the basis of our whole existence- irrespective of opposing facts or truth. Our approach to life, relationships, vision and destiny all stems from how we see ourselves. . The word of God contained in the bible is Truth. It tells us God's opinion and focuses our attention on truth beyond this physical world. To walk with Yahweh- the God of the bible-intimately, and achieve our divine purpose on earth, it is vital we see how God sees. We have to "sing from the same song sheet" or divine harmony will be impossible. "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" Amos 3:3 . Now, Jesus when he resurrected from the death said to Mary: “Do not hold onto me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” John 20:17b NIV WE are GOD's children in the very real sense that Jesus was God's child, NOW! This is our very real identity. This profound truth is the basis of our relationship with God. The all-powerful, all-knowing, all-wise God is our daddy now. . Though we believers in Jesus have at least a mental agreement to this truth, many remain hopeless, subservient to sin, sickness and lack without a fight. This should not be! When we truly know who our God is and who what it means to be his child, we will realise that it is IMPOSSIBLE to be defeated by anything we face in this world. Feelings of pain and inadequacy are just that - feelings, even Jesus Christ experienced them. The point is that despite these feelings and difficulties, our identity remains constant. This should shape our speaking, thereby our hope, ensuring our victory. . Dear friends, we are God’s children now; and it has not yet been made clear what we will become. We do know that when he appears, we will be like him; because we will see him as he really is.And everyone who has this hope in him continues purifying himself, since God is pure.1 John 3:2-3 CJB.
